Illustration Contest for Kids

Enter this month's poem illustration contest (poem below)!

If you'd like to receive an email each time a new contest is posted, please send an email to lynne.berry@lynneberry.com. Please use the subject header, "drawing contest," and include your email address in the body of the email.

Prizes: Winning illustrators of each contest (in up to four age categories: under 5 years old, 5 & 6 years old, 7 & 8 years old, and 9 to 11 years old) will receive an autographed first edition of one of my books! In addition, the first five schools with 50 or more students who submit entries will receive an autographed copy of one of my books, as a donation to add to their library collection (limit one complete set of my in-print books per school per year). All children who submit entries, but do not win books, will receive an autographed postcard.

Submissions: To submit your illustration, mail your artwork to Lynne Berry, 7408 Dunaway Drive, Nashville, TN 37221, or email a JPG or TIFF file to lynne.berry@lynneberry.com. Be sure to include your name, age, school, and address, written on the back of your drawing.**

Display of artwork: By submitting your artwork, you agree to display of the artwork on www.lynneberry.com. Your first name and age will be displayed with your artwork.

**Schools: If you submit a package of illustrations from multiple students, please provide the name of the school contact person on a cover sheet; it's only necessary to include the school address once, on this cover sheet. But please, please, include the school name, along with student name and age, on the back of EVERY drawing. When I'm looking through hundreds of drawings, I don't do a very good job of keeping them in school-specific piles; as soon as the drawings are out of your school's envelope, there's a good chance I'll lose track of which school each drawing belongs to, unless the school name (plus child name and age) is written on the back of EVERY drawing! A good method some schools have used is to print out address labels with school information, and stick an address label on the back of each drawing.

Limbo Lizards
by
Lynne Berry

Limbo Lizards on the loose
Limbo past the barnyard goose.
Goose honks squawk!
Lizards rock.
Waggle goose joins wiggle walk.

Lizards jive in jolly jigs,
Limbo past the barnyard pigs.
Pink pigs blink.
Lizards link.
Pig toes tap to cowbell clink.

Limbo Lizards leave the hogs,
Limbo past the barnyard dogs.
Barn pups yip!
Lizards dip.
Puppies pounce, one turns a flip.

Lizards leap from puppy heap,
Limbo past the barnyard sheep.
Baa! says lamb.
Lizards jam.
Shaggy sheep waltz with the ram.

Limbo Lizards dodge the rats,
Limbo past the barnyard cats.
Barn cats stare.
Lizards pair.
Kittens strut, tails tap the air.

Limbo Lizards steer a course,
Limbo past the barnyard horse.
Horse cries neigh!
Lizards sway.
Limbo Lizards groove away.
