Debutante Ball

Turtles in girdles
and garters and hose
whirl in a swirl of silk
sashes and bows.

They mambo by moonlight
on tortoiseshell lawn;
they dance the reptilian
cotillion till dawn.

They tango toward tables
of mangoes to munch--
then kick off their slippers
to dive in the punch!

Swimming in swirls of wet
ribbons and bows:
Turtles in waterlogged
girdles and hose.
