Library Visits

A public library is one of the most wonderful places in all the world. I love to visit libraries!

I do a variety of different programs at libraries, for both adults and children:

Contrary Cat Storytime (30 to 45 minutes, for ages 2 to 8). This program features a reading of The Curious Demise of a Contrary Cat, a story about Witch and her no-good Cat. I need plenty of help from everybody to chant along when Witch says, "DRAT THAT CAT!" After the story, children have a chance to make their own cat mask; the youngest children may need a helping hand from parents.

Duck Skates Storytime (30 to 45 minutes, for ages 2 to 6). During this program, I read Duck Skates, a story about five little ducks who have a fun day in the snow. Before reading the story, I ask for ideas about fun things that kids like to do in the snow--when we read the story, we find out if the ducks like any of the same things about a snowy day! After the story, children have a chance to decorate their own duck for a day in the snow; the youngest children may need a helping hand from parents.

Duck Dunks Storytime. (30 to 45 minutes, for ages 2 to 6). During this program, I read Duck Dunks, a story about five little ducks who spend the day at the beach. Before reading the story, I ask for ideas about fun things that kids like to do at the beach--when we read the story, we find out if the ducks like any of the same activities! After the story, children have a chance to make a duck puppet and a beach/ocean stage; the youngest children may need a helping hand from parents.

Writing Picture Books for Children (1 to 2 hours, for grownups). This program is a workshop for adults interested in writing for children. I talk about the basics of authoring a picture book, from writing to finding a publisher.
